In our Lab marine ecology research is conducted thanks to the use of advanced equipment, such as:<\/p><br><br><ul data-start=\"939\" data-end=\"2689\">\r\n \t<li data-start=\"939\" data-end=\"1185\">\r\n<p data-start=\"941\" data-end=\"1185\">Coulter Counter II for clearance rate experiments in filter-feeding organisms; Strathkelvin 782 meter, 1302 electrodes and a respirometry chamber to measure respiration of aquatic organisms (mainly benthic invertebrates such as mussels etc.);<\/p>\r\n<\/li>\r\n \t<li data-start=\"1186\" data-end=\"1203\">\r\n<p data-start=\"1188\" data-end=\"1203\">CHN analyser;<\/p>\r\n<\/li>\r\n \t<li data-start=\"1204\" data-end=\"1455\">\r\n<p data-start=\"1206\" data-end=\"1455\">spectrophotometer (Shimadzu 1800) and spectrofluorimeter (Jasco); equipment for chemical and trophic analysis in the sea and for sediment and animal tissue analysis (total organic matter, chlorophyll-a, nutrients, lipids, carbohydrates, proteins);<\/p>\r\n<\/li>\r\n \t<li data-start=\"1456\" data-end=\"1623\">\r\n<p data-start=\"1458\" data-end=\"1623\">3 pumps and 12 beakers for water filtration (47 and 25 mm diameter); hardware (2 PC-stations) and software for analysing and interpreting image-video of behaviour;<\/p>\r\n<\/li>\r\n \t<li data-start=\"1624\" data-end=\"1649\">\r\n<p data-start=\"1626\" data-end=\"1649\">1 optical microscope;<\/p>\r\n<\/li>\r\n \t<li data-start=\"1650\" data-end=\"1667\">\r\n<p data-start=\"1652\" data-end=\"1667\">4 binoculars;<\/p>\r\n<\/li>\r\n \t<li data-start=\"1668\" data-end=\"1735\">\r\n<p data-start=\"1670\" data-end=\"1735\">6 underwater cameras for recording behaviour of marine animals;<\/p>\r\n<\/li>\r\n \t<li data-start=\"1736\" data-end=\"1765\">\r\n<p data-start=\"1738\" data-end=\"1765\">1 FLIR B2 thermal camera;<\/p>\r\n<\/li>\r\n \t<li data-start=\"1766\" data-end=\"1918\">\r\n<p data-start=\"1768\" data-end=\"1918\">4 amplifiers to measure the heartbeat of invertebrates connected to a portable oscilloscope (FLUKE 125) plus 2 laptops equipped with Fluke View 3.0;<\/p>\r\n<\/li>\r\n \t<li data-start=\"1919\" data-end=\"1956\">\r\n<p data-start=\"1921\" data-end=\"1956\">4 laptops for field measurements;<\/p>\r\n<\/li>\r\n \t<li data-start=\"1957\" data-end=\"2079\">\r\n<p data-start=\"1959\" data-end=\"2079\">2 cells 3 m \u00d7 3 m (from 0-40 \u00b0C) with lamps to simulate different degrees of irradiance and fans to maintain humidity;<\/p>\r\n<\/li>\r\n \t<li data-start=\"2080\" data-end=\"2164\">\r\n<p data-start=\"2082\" data-end=\"2164\">10 aquaria (80 L) and 20 aquaria (10 L) used for keeping experimental organisms;<\/p>\r\n<\/li>\r\n \t<li data-start=\"2165\" data-end=\"2250\">\r\n<p data-start=\"2167\" data-end=\"2250\">1 intertidal aquarium (1 m \u00d7 1 m, h\u2009=\u200950 cm) to simulate tidal rhythms (in cell);<\/p>\r\n<\/li>\r\n \t<li data-start=\"2251\" data-end=\"2564\">\r\n<p data-start=\"2253\" data-end=\"2564\">equipment for Scope for Growth (16 beakers; in cell); Multiprobe instruments (Yellow Springs SD6000 plus 60 m of cable with fluorimeter) for acquisition of oceanographic data and sampling of waters (4 Niskin bottles, Secchi discs etc.), sediments (cores etc.), fauna (plankton and fish nets) and flora (nets);<\/p>\r\n<\/li>\r\n \t<li data-start=\"2565\" data-end=\"2628\">\r\n<p data-start=\"2567\" data-end=\"2628\">1 hydrophone for recording noise in the marine environment;<\/p>\r\n<\/li>\r\n \t<li data-start=\"2629\" data-end=\"2668\">\r\n<p data-start=\"2631\" data-end=\"2668\">1 telescope for field observations;<\/p>\r\n<\/li>\r\n \t<li data-start=\"2669\" data-end=\"2689\">\r\n<p data-start=\"2671\" data-end=\"2689\">a weather station.<\/p>\r\n<\/li>\r\n<\/ul>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t<\/section>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Laboratory The laboratory consists of: a chemical-lab, equipped with instruments for the study of the flow of organic matter through the aquatic ecosystem;
