La mia ricerca si concentra principalmente sulla comprensione di come i fattori di stress naturali e antropogenici influenzino i sistemi ecologici marini – dall’individuo alla comunità – per dedurre i potenziali effetti sul funzionamento degli ecosistemi. Studio le risposte degli organismi marini alle diverse fonti di disturbo attraverso l’identificazione dei range e delle soglie di tolleranza delle specie in condizioni ambientali mutevoli, che possono influenzare direttamente le interazioni biotiche delle specie modificando quelle esistenti e creandone di nuove. Sono particolarmente interessata a come il cambiamento della temperatura guidi le interazioni e la distribuzione delle specie su diverse scale spaziali, la struttura della comunità e il suo potenziale effetto sul funzionamento dell’ecosistema. Attraverso l’approccio sperimentale e la modellistica, ho l’obiettivo di creare strumenti di gestione che integrino le risposte metaboliche delle specie e le mutevoli interazioni in risposta al disturbo ambientale, permettendo la produzione di strumenti ecologici finalizzati alla conservazione della biodiversità marina.
